Fall Math Activities For You to Try with Your Class

Are you feeling like bringing in some fall math activities for your class this year? You may not know this, but my absolute favorite season has always been Fall. I love the break from the scorching heat and the gorgeous colors the leaves turn each year. The smell of the forest and the sense of anticipation of the nearness of my favorite holiday, Christmas, make it that much better! By this time in school, students have the routine down, and there is happy energy that I thoroughly enjoy. Fall is a great time to start bringing out some seasonal activities that keep engagement up and have students practice skills they’ve been learning. With these activities, students will be able to do so without even realizing they’re learning because they will be having so much fun.

Ratios and Rates Fall Activity

Students practice writing and finding ratios and rates in this fun activity. They will also solve unit rates and apply other ratio solutions to real-world situations. You have the option of printing out this activity or using it in Google classroom digitally. That way, everyone can use it!

Fall Themed Boom Cards

Have you started incorporating Boom Cards into your classroom yet? Try out some seasonal Boom Cards in your classroom! You can do them as a warm-up in class together (project the cards on the screen!), or even assign them individually or in small groups. Read more about Boom Cards here, and check out some fun ones for the season!

Thanksgiving Meal Project

This is a favorite project I do every year with my class. In this real-world project, students plan and execute Thanksgiving dinner. Some skills involved are increasing recipes (fraction operations), budgeting and shopping (decimal operations), and even applying coupons (percent and decimal operations). There’s even a fun part at the end where students can write or find a hilarious Thanksgiving joke! It’s a hit in my classroom every year, and a favorite fall themed math activity.

Integer Operations Thanksgiving Turkey Mystery Pixel Art

Mystery pixel art are no-prep, self-checking activities that will not only help your sanity during a crazy time of year but will also engage students! There are so many seasonal options available that your students will definitely enjoy trying.
